We drag ourselves to Cambodia!
Cambodia is quite the place. So many antiquities. So many land mines. Angkor Wat is an amazing and perplexing place. The people are poor, but very intelligent. The use their kids to sell things to we tourist, but those kids are so smart!
Here's a shot of the pearly gates of Cambodia from the Thailand side. We met another
American couple that wanted to share a taxi in Cambodia after we cleared customs. We
waited for them for a half hour or so and they never showed. We figure they we're
killed or kidnapped at the border . . . this could have been us.
As with most tourists who visit Cambodia, we high-tailed it over to Angkor Wat as
as we hit the ground. Just a word of advice to you, it probably only looks like there
was a nuclear holocaust. It may have been a million land mine explosions that made it look so dead and desolate.
Here's the Angkor temple that makes it famous.
Angkor is so friggin' huge that you can't possibly walk around it and
expect to see much. Not being the brightest people and having a few days
to try, we took a shot at seeing much of it walking the first day. We
thought we were going to die from the heat and extreme distances.
Knowing better we took a taxi the second day, much better. Take our advice, don't try to be a walker. On the roads there you see such things as shown here, big giant scary statues guarding the sides of the road.
The first of many doorway pictures that absolutely anyone and everyone who
visits Angkor has to take. Don't think for a second that this kid didn't
extort a dollar from us for letting us take his picture.
Turns out monks aren't nearly as good at extorting money from you when you take their picture. I don't think they have the energy to chase you as far when
you sneak a shot. This photo didn't cost us a penny, but we had to run.
This is one of the nicely made heads at the Banyon temple. This temple was
Todd's favorite. Nice.
Here's the tree growing into the temple that Angkor has become famous for
since the filming of Tomb Raider. We just broke in and stole the hidden
jewels but Indiana Jones met up with us and stole them back.
Ah, another doorway photo.
Here's a nice cameo of Kam's backside as she climbs the incredibly steep and
dangerous stairs they seemed to have put at every temple in Angkor. They
made their stairs quite steep back in the day, evidently to ensure that you
had to be really serious to get to the top. Kam was.
One of the many chances we got to catch a reflection in the pools there
at Angkor. Not to be missed.
Nice.
You should really figure this, yet another temple. We can't be bothered to
describe them all.
For some reason, we stuck another shot of the tree here with only lovely
Kamla in the picture this time.
A famous lake there put in to gain the viewer's reverence. Only I can't
remember what we were revering. A note if you ever go to Angkor: the kids
aren't as savvy at the lake, you can get thing most cheaply there.
Now, isn't that a nice reflection of the main temple with we 2 cute people
in front of it?
This is Kam's favorite temple, can't remember it at the moment. It's a
smaller temple, but evidently was made by women since it most ornately
carved and men of course wouldn't have the interest to do such a thing.
A doorway within a doorway, we don't have too many pictures like this
I'm sure.
OK, one more then.
Here's Kam giving away the farm to a pretty face. These kids were particularly
enterprising.
Another shot of the Banyon temple that was Todd's favorite. Or, just a
scary head it you like.
The website wouldn't be complete without another shot of the tree invading
the temples of Cambodia.
